Peter & Mary REYNOLDS of Newnham 1813-1841 (General)
by martind, Sunday, July 25, 2010, 15:01 (5240 days ago)
This couple were living in Newnham in August 1813, but had both died before June 1841. He was a farmer, born Kinlet (Salop) in 1757, and Mary was born in Kemberton, Salop the same year. Apart from that I know very little. Grateful thanks, in advance, to anyone able to throw light on these Reynolds!

Yes. I had a look in the Gloucester Family History Centre at the CD with the list of burials in Newnham, but came up with nothing. I just feel there must be something out there though! M

Thanks for this. The will of Peter Reynolds of Burcott (proved 17/5/1844) refers to his sister Mary Reynolds as being married to their cousin Peter Reynolds, and that this Peter and Mary were farming in Newnham, Gloucs. - this was as at 31/8/1813. He made a codicil to his will on 3/6/1841 saying that Peter and Mary had then both died. What I am trying to do is to establish the definite connection between the family of that Peter Reynolds of Burcott and the parents of William, Elizabeth, Mary, John etc. whom you mention.

There may be Land Tax Assessments records at the Gloucestershire Records Office - which would give you dates/and name of property etc.

Is this the Peter Reynolds whose will is proved in 1844 ? If so there appears to be a generation between him and his sister Mary 1757 - possible yes but rare.
1841 Burcote
Peter Reynolds abt 1771 Shropshire, England Worfield, Shropshire
Ann Reynolds abt 1776 Shropshire, England Worfield, Shropshire
and this is the couple of cousins who eventually farm in Newnham ?

Thank you so much for your posting.
On the first point, I apologise for any confusion. Perhaps I should have phrased my query differently: Peter Reynolds of Burcott was baptised in Kemberton in 1766. His will refers to a sister Mary, who seems to be the one baptised in Kemberton in 1757. She is referred to as being married to her cousin Peter Reynolds. I am trying to answer the question, "Were the children of Peter and his wife Mary Reynolds those children who were baptised in Kinlet between 1778 and 1783?"
On the second point, yes, it does seem most probable that the husband of Mary née Reynolds (baptised 1757) was that Peter, baptised Shifnal 1757. My ancestor's 1836/7 diary refers to Reynolds relations who are still living in Shifnal at that date.
