William HANKINS 1717 Dymock area

Thanks for that Slowhands..but he is not my William.. My ancestor was born in 1721 St Swithins..Worcestershire...married Mary Daffy, daughter of Aaron Daffy of Colwall. He;s a hard person to find, as there does not appear to be any baptism for him..I think he was non conformist or Presbyterian...He was a church wardon...hope that helps...Dalek..

hi Dalek

I have been following some of your posts on this site and roots chat. You seem to know an awful lot about the Hankins particularly the NZ Hankins lines, one of which is John Herbert Hankins.
There is another branch of the family in NZ also. John Herbert Hankins' sister Annie Maria Hankins Born 1948, married an Edward Hankins Nephew of the Rev Thomas Frederick Paul Hankins and son of William Hankins of Greenhouse. (yes Hankins married Hankins)

She was his second wife, his first wife was Mary Ann Williams of Usk. They married in London in 1850 then got on a boat to South Australia. I have followed his life through Australia and New Zealand where he finally settled and died in Auckland after marrying Annie Maria. He left her destitute with 3 young children.

I was married to his great grandson.

Edward's father William, married Jane Jones of Usk. I have found Edward's baptism however it is one of two entries in the same year, same area and both to a William and Jane Hankins. Which is which?
William died young. I have been looking for Jane's family and their marriage around Usk but no luck as yet.

Do you know anything of this branch of Hankins. William was the brother of Rev Thomas Fred Paul Hankins and was baptised in Dymock in 1798.

Do you know anything of this branch

I realize I'm necroposting here, but I wonder whether anyone has any records that point to a Dennis Hankins who emigrated to the Carolina colony around the time of its founding (the name William runs in my family, so the William discussed on this thread could perhaps be a brother or contemporary cousin)? What I've seen indicates a 1715 date of birth. The family legend is that he and two brothers departed Glasgow, Scotland--however Hankinses are pretty thin up there, so I wonder whether that might simply have been where they had to travel in order to embark. Also, I don't have any indication of those brothers here. Dennis Hankins settled in Georgetown. I have to question whether the brothers might have gotten off at other colonial ports.

Hi flacorps,
I read with interest your comment about Dennis Hankins. I have been interested in this Hankins name for several years and have done a vast amount of research into it. I am presently working on the name in Bristol and this is where I have come across the name Dennis Hankins I have come across the name Dennis in a 1760 Will of Edward Hankins of Bristol. Dennis was his son baptised about 1739. There is also another mention of the name Dennis when Thomas Hankins baptised a son later. I believe this Thomas to be a brother of the first mentioned Dennis. I do not have any record of a Dennis Hankins as early as 1715 but I would be interested to know more.

Have a look at this:

https://www.wikitree.com/g2g/617156/hankins-family-virginia-colony-conflated-hankins-fa...

The URL above is incomplete because it needs a word appended that the board rejected. The word is used for a football or soccer shirt, it's the second half of the name of a U.S. state which begins with New (not York, Hampshire or Mexico), and it's also the name of an island mentioned in the same breath as Guernsey.

Apparently that word is on the naughty list here.

Hi flacorps,
ref the "naughty list", my usual resort is to use hyphens, so unless I'm very mistaken in this case the required word is "jer-sey". Hope this helps you and anyone else for future troublesome posts, and when accessing your link (albeit without the hyphen of course).

Jersey was included in the list of non acceptable words as we experienced a period when spammers tried to advertise NFL jerseys on this site. It has now been removed and hopefully alternative systems we now have in place will keep them at bay.
