Stephen Wheatstone/Whetstone and Hannah (General)

by donna howells @, Monday, August 09, 2010, 19:01 (5225 days ago)

Looking for any information regarding Hannah who married Stephen Whetstone/Wheatstone. Hannah possibly Cowmeadow, as their son was baptised James Cowmeadow Whetstone. Believe Stephen came from the Moorwood/Vention Lane area of Lydbrook. Eventually becoming landlord of The Royal Spring. My original investigation led to her parents as James Cowmeadow and Mary Tingle, but I have been informed their Hannah married Barzillai Meek.

Many thanks

Many thanks for the information. Could be a possibility but without marriage records proving to be difficult to confirm one way or another. I will try and confirm their children and perhaps order one of the childrens birth certificate. This will at least confirm her actual name.

Many thanks once again.

I thought that Ann, the sister of the Hannah Cowmeadow who married Barzillai Meek, married Thomas Meredith in 1841.

Stephen is my g,g,grandfather,Hannah was a Cowmeadow. Her father was William Cowmeadow born 1775 died 1853,he married Pleasent Jordan 29 july 1798,she died 1803.
He then remarried Hannah Harris in 1805,she was born in 1784 died sept 1862.
Look for will of William Cowmeadow 1853 of Tibbs Green-Ruadean.I also have found that Hannah of Barzilla Meek marriage, name changes Dianna(Hannah).Thats all i have at this moment in time.

Many many thanks for this information. I have been trying to resolve this mystery in my family tree for a number of months. I can now move forward with this branch with renewed gusto!!

For your information Stephen is my 4th great grandfather.

Could this William Cowmeadow be the brother of the James Cowmeadow who married Mary Tingle or are they separate strands? They all appear to be living in Tibbs Green/Ruardean. James was the son of James Cowmeadow and Ann Evans.

Hi Carol,

Could be, but not sure, all i know is that this william is great grandson of William Cowmeadow c1700 and Elizabeth Pen c1703.

They had daughters,Anne c1730,Hannah c1732,hester c1733,and a son William c1735.

If i find a link i will let you know.

Hi Roderick

Thanks for the info. I have now changed my family tree to show Ann Cowmeadow, daughter of James Cowmeadow & Mary Tingle as being the spouse of Thomas Meredith. Luckily my family tree software makes moving entire families and all their dependants a fairly easy operation

Although I have 140 Cowmeadows in my family tree including 10 William's, the William Cowmeadow 1775 you show as being the father of Hannah who married Stephen Whetstone is unknown to me.

The Thomas Meredith I showed previously as being the spouse of Elizabeth Trigg stands, you will note from my posting that this Thomas Meredith was the son of John Meredith & Elizabeth Oakey. The Thomas Meredith who married Ann Cowmeadow was the son of Thomas Meredith.

Although all those mentioned above are not directly related to me it is very important to get things right. My connection with Stephen Whetstone is via daughter Esther 1846 who married 4th cousin 3 times removed Moses Brain 1845, also via Stephen Whetstone's son John Stephen as his daughter Anne Whetsone married 2nd cousin 3 times removed Alan Martin Treherne 1871. I have 254 Treherne's in my family tree, my mother was a Treherne, her mother being a Marfell.

They also had a william 1778 to 1855 who married mary hatton on 29-09-1804.Also they had a son james 1768 to 1821 who married mary tingle on 24-03-1807.

Thanks Rod

I already had a William Cowmeadow as married to Elizabeth - the father of James Cowmeadow 1737 who married Ann Evans 18 Mar 1762. I believe he is a sibling to Ann, Hannah, Hester & William 1735. I followed your information but wonder if you have inadvertantly missed a generation in the version you have shown:

william 1735 married sarah roberts married on21 may 1755 their son william born 1775 died 1853 was father of hannah who married stephen whetstone

I found a baptism for a William Cowmeadow in 1775 and this William is the son of William Cowmeadow and Hannah :

Hello there,
The James Cowmeadow who married to Mary Tingle was the son of James Cowmeadow who was the husband of Ann Evans. I believe that he had a brother William. I have copies of both Jameses' wills. The older James left all property between James junior and William with good provision for his wife Ann.

I am not sure how this fits in.
