Hester/Esther DUBERLY, m. William MATTHEWS 1813 (General)

My 4 X's g grandmother was Hester/Esther Duberly. She married William Matthews in English Bicknor 23 Aug 1813. Does anyone have her in your family tree or know if she was the daughter of John and Betty Duberly? There is also a parish record for a baptism of James Duberly in 1811. His mother is Esther Duberly. Does anyone know if this is the same Esther that married William Matthews? Thanks for any help you can give me. Sue

Yes, I read those; however, isn't it possible that there can be two Esther Duberlys born during the same time period? The fact that a record exists for an Esther Duberly born to John and Betty does not prove that she is the same Esther Duberly that married William Matthews. Her parents are not listed on the marriage record, so I am trying to be careful before entering this info into my family tree. My hope was that there is someone in the Duberly family that may have a family tree tying these two events together. Unfortunately, something along this line has happened to me before, and later I found out that there were two people by the same name.

Thanks for the additional explanation to your question.
Many times I have encouraged people to keep an open mind as getting 100% proof is often difficult. So failing that, or until more evidence comes along, we are left with a " most likely" or " balance of probability" conclusion.
Right now thats where we seem to be, based on the sources available, BT's, Parish records, Census data etc.
2 females with very similar names of similar age, and born in the same hamlet - possible - if they were say Mary JONES or Elizabeth DAVIS/DAVIES then I would be concerned at leaping to the conclusion.
Jim A has replied in a prior thread http://www.forum.forest-of-dean.net/index.php?id=26962 setting out his view / research, and equally in other threads Jim A is happy to accept new evidence /records or interpretations that cause him to "rewrite" his branches / tree.
So in conclusion I would say that the best fit ( with current evidence / sources) is a single Hester/Esther DUBERLEY from Ruardean born 1789, daughter of John and Betty HARRIS
Year: 1789
Month: Jan
Day: 25
Parents_Surname: DUBBERLEY
Child_Forenames: Esther
Fathers_Forenames: John
Mothers_Forenames: Betty
Mothers_Surname:
Residence:
Occupation:
Officiating_Minister: J H BEESTON - minister
Event: Baptism
Memoranda:
Notes: DUBBERLY in BT
Register_Reference: P275 IN 1/6
Page_Number: 10
Parish_Chapel: Ruardean
However if family bibles / history exist and this contradicts the "best fit" then I'm sure it would be welcomed, and a balanced view taken of all sources.
I hope this helps

In one of my previous replies...... (just to re-cap)
Esther MATTHEWS married John WILCE A/M/J Qtr 1850 Westbury S
Voluame 11 - Page 637
1861 Census Drybrook
John WILCE - 64, born Hereford
Hester WILCE - 71 c1790 born Ruardean - buried 18 February 1866, age 77 c 1789
1851 Census East Dean
Hagsley Hill
John WILCE - 54 born Oxenhall
Hester WILCE - 58 born FOD
Ephraim MATTHEWS - 28 - born FOD
Thomas MATTHEWS - 18 - born Mitcheldean
Hopefully, the marriage certificate of Esther to John WILCE - would give the name of her father. This was the way I proved my x grandmother's maiden name.
For example, my grandmother's birth certificate in 1869 (my Dad's was the youngest of 12 and I was the youngest of 4) - so I'm not that ancient! - Rhoda FIELD, mother Mary FIELD, late DUNSDON, late JOHNSON, formerly WAYNE.
Mary FIELD's second marriage certificate in 1842 : Mary JOHNSON, married Henry DUNSDON, Father: Thomas WAYNE

Normally the only source of specific information regarding marriages at Westbury on Severn Register Office is an actual certificate.
Is this how you obtained the information or is there another way of accessing such information ?

Jim
I do have the marriage certificate, would be nice if there was another way to get access to Registry Office marriages than by paying £9.25 now.
If you want a copy for your records let me know.
The Matthews/Dubberly line is on my wife's side with Joseph Born 1815 then Moses Born 1845

Thanks David
But you have supplied all the useful information that is to be gleaned from it. I was curious to see if there was another way of getting the info. I already have almost 1000 certificates.
Does your line extend beyond Moses to Caleb, then Martin James Moses ?

The line goes from Moses to his daughter Bertha Matthews born 21/8/1870 who had a daughter Beatrice in 1890. Beatrice(1890-1975) is my wife's Grandmother who was brought up by Moses and his wife. Bertha left the Forest and went to work in Lewes, Sussex as a Housekeeper Bertha died in Lewes in 1954
