A relative of mine, Gilbert Capener, is looking for his paternal granfather. He has the name of Fanny as his father's sister and Alice Louise as his father's mother. He doesnt have the name of his father's father. Any information would be greatly appreciated. Debbie

Fanny and Alice Louise CAPENER - Previous thread

by Capener, Tuesday, August 31, 2010, 21:57 (5203 days ago) @ admin

A Gilbert Capener born 1930 does not know who his paternal granfather is. His father is either Elias or Edward capener (B1877. He seems to have 2 names for his father which is where a lot of the confusion is. He was told his aunt Fanny capener was his dad's sister - she was possibly born in dursley workhouse 1888. He thinks if he can find her, then he might be able to find out who his grandfather is.

Yes, his mother's maiden name was Violet Batts. So that is the correct one at last! Gilberts relations lived in teh forest of dean and he said that Fanny, his father's sister was born in the workhouse in Dursley. I will let Gilbert know that hsi father was born in Merthyr because he hardly knows anything about him. thank you very much.

seems to "fit" some of the names and places that you describe. there are variances - not unusual ! ( and links back to my original responses http://www.forum.forest-of-dean.net/index.php?mode=thread&id=5392 )

Looks like Thomas with a mix of children / grandchildren....

Hi

this is where it gets confusing - His Aunt Fanny's marriage certificate states her father to be Edward Capener who was a farmer. However his father's marriage certificate shows an Elias Capener. Gilbert says his father said his family's livelihood was farming and that there was a family who lived next door to them called Pick in North Nibley.
