Lawrence Christie MURRAY 1893 - 1916 Cinderford R I P (General)
At the going down of the sun and in the morning
We will remember them.
The sorrowful news was received on Tuesday
morning that a well known and much loved
Cinderford young man Pts Lawrence Christie
Murray had died from wounds in a hospital at
the front. The news was conveyed in letter
kindly sent by a sister in charge at the hospital
showing tha Pte Murray 26255 Gloucester
Regt had been in hospital two days suffering
from a wound in the back the lung being
affected.
All that was possible was done for
him but it could not prevail to save his life.
He grew gradually weaker and passed awy
very peacefully. Pte Murray was a son or
Mr and Mrs John Murray of Lower High
Street Cinderford and was 23 years of age.
He had attested and was called up on January
21st and had been at the front for about a
month. He had been a clerk at a local office
of the Pearl Assurance Company Ltd. for
some years and a smart bright young
fellow and a good comrade.
He was actively
associated with the game of cricket in the
district and he has left a happy memory not only
with his immediate friends but with all who
knew him. There is an elder brother serving
at the front. We hope next week to publish a
photo of the late Pte Murray.
