At the baptism of his daughter Annie Louisa by his first wife Emma, formerly SMART, on July 15 1900 he gave his occupation as "Private 2nd Glos regiment". NICHOLLS is entered in the register as NICHOLS.
Thomas NICHOLLS enlisted in the Gloucestershire Regiment at Bristol on August 11 1888, number 2348. Wounded on March 10 1900 at Driefontein, South Africa, whilst serving with 2nd. Battalion The Gloucestershire Regt. during The Boer War. Discharged, medically unfit, April 16 1901, having suffered a gunshot wound, in action, to right ankle.
