Isaac Webb - for the attention of Peter Webb (General)

by holly @, Thursday, October 21, 2010, 15:58 (5152 days ago)

Isaac Webb is also my ancestor - my gt gt grandfather via his son Peter. On one of your old messages I noticed you said Isaac's wife's maiden name was Wiggins and I think I have traced her back two generations.

Are you still searching?

Isaac Webb - for the attention of Peter Webb

by holly @, Friday, October 22, 2010, 22:15 (5151 days ago) @ holly

I have found out today that Eliza's surname is Higgins using the advanced birth search for Peter Webb (Born 1850) from Gloucestershire BMD Indexes - Gloucester Registration Service.

All the ancestors I thought I'd found I have to redo. Just wondered if the modern Peter is still there looking.

I know Eggins was listed but I went onto the Gloucester site and went into Peter Webb's birth registration and his mother is listed as Eliza Higgins. When I was reading one of the present Peter's posts I noticed he listed her as Eliza Wiggins in the sort of small print in his signature (?). Using that surname I found details of Eliza Wiggins born in Wiltshire on the correct date and could trace that back another of couple generations.

Isaac Webb - Marriage to Eliza EGGINS (Accents)

Again... this is all to day with 'accents'

I was born in Swindon, (pronounced SWINDUN - Wiltshire - pronounced WILTSHUR - which is 20 miles from Chippenham) and my Grandparents were from Gloucestershire - in both Counties the 'H' is silent.... hence IGGINS/EGGINS - unless of course one was 'Posh'.

Eliza born Chippenham (in a Wiltshire accent when I grew up - was pronounced Chipnum)- silent "H" again.

Do you know I had forgotten about the Forest's accent. I'd stay with my great aunt for some weeks in the summer holidays and be out every day playing. I would come home speaking in a most peculiar way - a mixture of broad Forest and Welsh! When we go visiting now that broad accent and way of speaking seems to have disappeared which is a shame.

Many thanks for your help - I was hoping to help the modern Peter but it seems he no longer comes on the forum.
