Dear Hawdon
Thanks for your reply I am sorry I did not include my greatgrandfathers name which was david Loveridge so I was amazed to see that apart from the middle name[ John ]that you found the information that you have .I did send for a marriage certificate a few years back and it states the witnesses names are the same as the ones that is on the information that you provided me .This all seems to fit as my last remaining uncle said that he thought they were of a travelling family so maybe you have found the information I have beenn searching for all this time .
Thankyou Sheila

Dear Slowhands
Yes if they were travellers I aggree that they would be hard to trace, also the name Preedy if the records I have of David Loveridge marrying Ellen Preedy very much ties in with what my last remaing uncle said that he thought they belonged to a travelling family but it sounds very much like it all ties in ,so with what has been passed on to me through the forum I hope to establish it all for certain .
Thanks Sheila

Hi Sheila I was interested to read that your ancestors moved to Chesterfield . Derbyshire and was wondering if they had anything to do with a factory that my great grandfather had there. He moved to Chesterfield in the 1890's from the forest of Dean. His name was William Albert Malson. Regards Liz Clarke

Hi Sheila the factory was called the patent electric shot-firing company and was situated in or near dark lane which is now called Malson Way. I know my Greatgrandfather used to ask people from the forest area to come and work in the factory.Do you still live in Chesterfield? Regards Liz

Thanks Sheila. I was actually born in Chesterfield and lived there until I was 9. Don't go back very often now but hope to go back in the spring. I did go to the library there and they have a family history section which was quite good. Unfortunately did have much time to delve too deeply but worth going back too. Don't know if it would be any use to you. Regards Liz Clarke

Hi Liz
Sorry to be so long in getting back to you we were looking after the grandchildren who were on half term.I asked around for the shot firing company that you asked about and have come up with nothing except would they have made the explosives for shot firing in the coal mines as my hubbies father was a deputy at glapwell colliery and used to do shot firing sorry could not have been more help .We have been here in Norfolk now for around 45 years now and have never been back to our old haunts.

Hi Sheila it is a possibility all I know is that they filled hand grenades during WW1 but I suppose that after that they could have supplied explosives to the coal mines. I go back very occaisionally now as I've got a pen pal up that way. Talk soon Liz
