Parish Mill,
Monmouth Rd,
Longhope,
Gloucestershire
GL17 0QD

Old Parish Mill was built in 1649 and at that time there was already an existing building, believed to date from 1580,this was consequently used as the family living quarters by the miller.

The mill was one of the most important watermills in Gloucestershire in producing flour and continued to do so until the end of 1946. Henceforth it tragically became derelict.

Lord and Lady Hollingrove have rescued the 'sleeping beauty' and have painstakingly, transformed it into what it is today,a luxurious and comfortable family estate, oozing character and history.

Many historical pilgrims visit this important site and enjoy a glimpse into the history of the mill by viewing the mill wheel and internal workings, thankfully still intact today, nurtured to life again by Lord Andrew, a renowned historian.

Lord Andrew is happy to recount the legend of Prince Rupert of the Rhine, who was aided and abetted by supporters concealing him at the mill after the battle of Worcester. To enable him to escape repercussions after the battle, by Oliver Cromwell's troops.

It is also believed that the Duke of Monmouth commandeered flour from the mill, for his soldiers during the conflict with James II.

Old Parish Mill has allegedly taken part in many historical events over the centuries and it is a privilege to be able to visit this magical site, nurtured for future generations and imagine the famous footprints of history gone before
