Eliza Ward - is this the answer? (General)
thanks Simone - I had missed that post about Eliza being baptised as Byrnes and not Ward but I still think it must be her who was buried when she was 6. There is no way that they would list another daughter as Eliza, even if she was christened as Elizabeth, if the first Eliza was still alive. I have found this in other instances where one sibling has died and the same/similar christian name given to a later sibling.
I had also missed the link with Eliza's father's occupation being a collier - many thanks for that observation. You are brilliant. You can tell I am very new at this.
I have wondered if Eliza Ward's father was in reality Richard Webb as her mother Elizabeth Ward and Richard must have married shortly after her birth and he was willing for his name to appear on her wedding details as her father and he gave her his surname on the censuses.
