Hello All
First post just like to say what a great web site this is, i have tried searching the forum and records but have not managed to find anything so here goes
my g/g grandfather Richard Cooper dob 27 aug 1853 BroadMoor East Dean
g/g/g grandfather was also Richard Cooper and was married to Ann Cooper maiden name Nelmes
Firstly just trying to find out where Broadmoor is/was
My g/g grandfather seems to have ended up in Snatchwood Trevethin(1881) Nr Pont y Pool with his brother Edwin as miners before his son (g/grandfather) Edgar Richard moved to Flintshire where he worked in the steelworks
I am hopingto visit the Forest of Dean in the summer to have a look around so any help advice gratefully received

Thanks Bertha
thats pretty much what i have established apart from that Ann Remarried, so i presume(for now) Richard her husband died, their last son was born 1853 and she was remarried by 1855 and the only two richard coopers i can find on bmd between those dates died in Stratford upon avon and Shipston Upon Stour!
When the two brothers returned to West Dean i have the address as Shortstanding near a Public House called the New Inn?
any way thanks again and i'll keep looking

Ann Nelmes ?
by admin , Forest of Dean, Friday, May 19, 2006, 07:33 (6764 days ago) @ slowhands
Thanks Slowhands
i did another search of the parish marriage records and found this
1845 COOPER Richard NELMES Anne Ruardean
in more detail it gives the parents names and occupations which is great as richards father was Nathaniel Cooper who i believe i have found on the 1841/1851/1871 census
From what i can make out is that Richard and Ann had two sons and maybe a daughter
i believe that the the sons of the Richard and Ann lived in Shortstanding in 1871 for a brief period before moving to south wales
thanks for the map link , i'm looking forward to paying the area a visit in the summer
possible confusion?
by slowhands , proud of his ancient Dean Forest roots, Friday, May 19, 2006, 08:13 (6763 days ago) @ admin
I have a feeling that there are two familes being mixed up here.
a Lydbrook/Coleford family and a Cinderford/Littldean family
The Richard Cooper ,(1853 Broadmoor) does not appear with the likely family in 1861 - the family that is living in Broadmoor in 1851. the mother appears to be Ann Nelmes ex Walford/Ruardean. So does this Richard die before 1861 ?
However, the Richard Cooper ( 1854 Lydbrook) that links to Shortstanding seems to be the West Dean family and has a son Edwin 1847 ( in 1851 census).
