John PUGH & Esther Frowen - Brockweir (General)

Hi - I am descended from the above through one of their sons - John Wesley FROWEN (aka PUGH!)and am trying to reach a little further back. I have John's will where he leaves everything to Esther (Hester) Frowen as long as she remains unmarried - else to the children. I cannot find out what happened to Esther after John PUGH died in 1825. Probate was granted in 1828 so she was alive then. Can anyone help here please?

I know that John's parents were William PUGH and Mary nee Taylor as they are buried in the same grave as is also Ann FROWEN (child.) I am thinking that this William PUGH was the William bap. 21/8/1730 at Chapel Hill (Mon) son of Roland and Mary PUGH who later came to Hewelsfield/Brockweir and had a Mary (bap 8/1/1734 Hewelsfield), John (bap 20/1/1742 Hewelsfield) and an Elizabeth (bap ?) but buried 27/7/1760 at Chapel Hill.

I'm hoping that someone knows of this family as it is confusing (to me!) as the IGI gives a Joannes PUGH son of Rolandi at Chapel Hill - I read that as John - but this baptism was 5/3/1731 (not sure if this is old or new style date as it is a bit soon if this is a brother to William if old style)

I have a John PUGH who married Sarah Daniel living in Chapel Hill but I don't know which John this is.

I would appreciate any light on this

Thanks

Alan (Frowen) PUGH

I believe Esther Frowen went on to marry William Hathaway, Mariner at Trelleck in 1838.The transcription gives Esther's surname as 'Throwen'. confirms her father as William Throwen. One of the witnesses was John Pugh (presumably Esther's son)
In 1851 William Hathaway was living in Bristol, Ann 'Throwin' was a visitor, presumably Esther's sister, with William Bowen aged 10. Esther could have been visiting family in Wales as there is an entry for an Esther Hathway. She may be the Esther Hathaway who died in Bristol in 1857.
I have not found her yet in the 1841 Census, although William was possibly in Chelsea Hospital for Mariners.
I am a direct descendant of William Hathaway. He married 3 times and had an extended family of 14 children, including step-children from his first marriage, 7 of his own children from his first & second, a step-child from his second, this is before the 'Pugh' step-children are added...a total of well over 20 all told..

Took me a while to find William HATHAWAY on the 1851 census in Bristol, but this is how it is transcribed on Ancestry

1851 Census, Bristol St Nicholas

Willm HATHWAY - 69 - labourer, born Brockward - Gloucestershire (think it says married)
Ann THRDWIN - 67 - visitor - unmarried, book binder, born Brockward - Gloucester (=c1784) ***
Willm BOWIN - 10 - visitor - born Trethevey, (Trevethin?) Monmouthshire ***

*** as Esther would lose her income should she re-marry, this could be Esther living under an assumed name. My x Grandad left Blakeney and moved to Swindon, think to escape debt - and he and his wife lived under his Grandmother's maiden name for two census returns. When my Grandad lived with them, his surname was correct and described as a Lodger. Their death certificates gave their correct names.
