James Riley Brown, Whitecroft 1865-Viney Hill 1940 (General)

by mrsbruso @, Thursday, December 02, 2010, 03:58 (5110 days ago)

Does anyone have any information on James Riley Brown? He was born September 24, 1865 and chritened at Monmouth Wesleyan. He was buried at Viney Hill April 23, 1940.

I'm not sure if he is a relation or not, but he appears in both my great grandmother (Mary Ann Clarke Lewis James) will as executor along with her daughter, Elizabeth Ann Cadogan in 1918, and then again in my great uncle Bill (William Richard Lewis)'s will along with his brother, Thomas James Lewis.

He is listed as a school attendance officer in the first instance, and a retired school attendance officer in the second. Wherever he fits in the scheme of things, he was obviously well trusted within the family.

His birth year, 1865 makes him a contemporary of neither Mary Ann (born in 1852) or Uncle Bill (born 1874). I'm just curious to see how he fits into the puzzle. If anyone has any knowledge of him I would be most interested to learn it.

His parents, both of Pillowell, were married the previous year at Parkend, and his youngest brother was baptised at Coleford in 1869.

Thanks.

Thanks, Slowhands. The links were invaluable. Two family names intersect in our trees ~~ Stephens and Griffiths. I will have to check for individuals tonight when I'm on an actual computer instead of my phone. Just what I wanted ~~ ANOTHER Elizabeth Griffiths to research! "The game is afoot" . . . Or something like that anyway.
