Burial - John GWATKIN 1819 - 1859 (General)

by unknown, Friday, December 03, 2010, 09:46 (5112 days ago)

As I live in the North of England I wonder if anyone visiting the Gloucester Record Office would be willing to look up the original record of this burial in the hope that the Vicar may have made a comment
John Gwatkin Aged 40 years at Cinderford August 14th 1859. I have applied for the death certificate but apparently there is not one.
I look forward to a reply Many Thanks Pat

Sewdley Chapel (Zion Chapel) was Bible Christian. Sewdley was the then current spelling. Gloucestershire County Records have the complete records I think. Building is extant.

1841 Census William Gwatkin 50 Carpenter
1851 Census William Gwatkin 64 Carpenter
Presume father of John also carpenter

We always do a full transcript of what is in the parish registers and in this case there there is no additional details added by the Vicar.

What kind of comment were you hoping to find that may have been entered by the Vicar?

Thank you to all who replied to my query about the burial of John Gwatkin. I have been ill for some months past hence the delay in replying. I think they perhaps were nonconformists. I was interested to find further information because of a rumour that John Gwatkin was murdered and also that his daughter Julia appears to be born 14 months after his death. Any other thoughts?
Kind regards to all Pat
