by ritpetite @, New Zealand, Friday, December 03, 2010, 21:57 (5111 days ago)

Hello

Ira James died in Bream's Eaves but is registered in Free BMD as follows:

Deaths Mar 1898 (>99%)
James Ira 80 Monmouth 11a 13

Can anyone tell me where he might be buried, ie where is the nearest cemetery.
I have searched St James Bream but cannot find it.

Thank you.

Thank you Graham

I just bought the Bream St James Memorial Inscriptions CD and was hoping to find it on it but it is not. So I suppose he does not have a headstone or it could not be transcribed.

Do you know whereabouts he is buried, ie near his father Richard. Too much to ask I expect.

But Thank you

Merry Christmas from NZ

There are several Richard James' buried at Bream . . . In 1838, Richard, husband of Hannah, aged 24; in 1844, Richard, husband of Ann, aged 83; in 1861, Richard, age 82, no spouse noted. Is one of these gentleman Ira's father?

At least in my family tree, very few of the burials list grave numbers, and Bream doesn't seem to be an exception to that rule. But I'm certainly no expert.

Even having had a grave number when I was searching for a family grave in one churchyard, the best advice I had from the vicar in searching for the stone was to watch for adders in the tall grass. An additional complication in the Forest, as I remember, is that the local stone is very soft, and doesn't weather well. Even my family stone circa 1918 was barely legible in 1983.

Perhaps someone in the Bream area can offer more advice . . .

My Richard is the 1861 death. He has a large monument with Emmanuel written on it but he was buried long before so dont worry about it.

Someone searching may not find Irahs anyway, just thought someone may have seen it or there was a map of lot numbers or names etc.

Too much to ask, sorry.

Rita
