For admin.
This is the 3rd time I have attempted to reply to this post, on both previous occasions I needed to look at my Family Tree for information, when I returned to my reply it was gone and I was returned to the Forum. I am now writing this in Word to paste as a reply.
Mrs Bruso (Word will not accept your version of the name !!)
My Family Tree is at variance with the information you have posted, but is in accord with the version portrayed by Slowhands.
I have the George William Meek who married Mary Ann Jordon on 12th Jul 1885 Bishopswood as being baptised 28 Jan 1861 Walford, the son of George Meek 1841 & Eliza Davis. You will note that this baptism is for George William Meek as per the marriage.
George Meek 1841 was the illegitimate son of Amelia Jane Meek 1821/1863 who was in turn the daughter of Joseph Meek 1771 & Hannah Baldwin 1779.
Amelia Jane Meek 1821 went on to marry Richard Goode 1818 on 26 Aug 1843 Ruardean.

Hi jimaston
on studying your reply regarding amelia meek and her son ,I worked back from accurate data of my father GEORGE HENRY MEEK his birth date through the censuses
1861 george meek aged 23 which by my reckoning to be right
1851 " " " 10 a difference of 3yrs even in those days is quite alot
when all the other ages in the 1841 census add up
Also noted in the 1861 meek census a william davis aged 4 lodger but in 1871 census
its its THOMAS DAVES aged 20 1881census it reads WILLIAM DAVIS aged 22 ages again dont add up
If I am related to richard goode who could have been my biological ancestor?
have you any information about him please
Does the 100yr gap still hold good? as I see my living relations have been listed!
Jim are you related in anyway to the meeks as you mention altering your family tree

by jimashton , Sunday, January 02, 2011, 13:55 (5079 days ago) @ roy meek
Hi Roy
Firstly, regarding the 1861 Census, it is possible that the William Davis Lodger aged 4 could in fact be the illegitimate son of Eliza Davis his wife, born 2 years before she married George Meek.
Answering your 3rd question, I am not directly related to Amelia 1821 (but see below), I used to be but a change to my family tree regarding her parents Joseph Meek & Hannah Baldwin removed that relationship. I am however still related to descendants of Joseph Meek & Hannah Baldwin. Indeed I am related via Amelia nee Meek's daughter Amelia nee Goode's own daughter Gertrude Helen Read, who married my half second cousin 3 times removed William Ernest Marfell born 29 Apr 1878.
I have never investigated Richard Goode who married Amelia Jane Meek 1821, however I note there is a baptism of a Richard Goode 19 Apr 1812 Newent to parents James Goode & Ann. Now I do have a 2nd cousin 5 times removed James Goode 1770 who married Ann Harper 1771 on 16 Nov 1793. They could well have been his parents.
Perhaps Slowhands might comment on this !!!!

Hi jimashton
Or should I call you cousin JIM thanks for your reply but concerning George Meek
1841 George was 3months
1851 George was 10 yrs.
1861 George was 23 yrs but working backwards this would be the correct for the
George Meek/ Mary Jordon line
so I am thinking the Amelia/ George meek of 1851 is not the relation of my George meek/
mary jordon because of the age difference

by jimashton , Monday, January 03, 2011, 12:28 (5078 days ago) @ slowhands
This is getting very confusing - too many George Meek's. I have 28 in my family tree, but this does not include the Lettice Meek progeny, as I do not have her in my tree.
I do however have the George Meek 1775, whose baptism slowhands has included. Son of George Meek 1756 and Ann Meek 1747 (George Meek 1756 being son of George Meek 1714 & Margaret Teague 1718. However I have George Meek 1775 as dying in 1776. George Meek 1756 & Ann Meek went on to have another George Meek baptised in 1777. He went on to marry Mary Vaughan 1777 and they had 3 children including George Meek 1801 who I also have as dying young.
At the marriage between George Meek 1777 and Mary Vaughan, you will note below the witness James Meek, I believe this to be George Meek 1777's brother James Meek 1810 -baptism below. This James Meek 1810 went on to have a daughter Emma Meek 1841 who married Great Great Great Great Uncle Thomas Marfell 1842 - I just had to include the Marfell's somehow !!

by denizon, Tuesday, December 14, 2010, 14:14 (5098 days ago) @ slowhands
George Henry Meek was my father, and one of his brothers had the unusual Christian name of LONAL, not Lionel or Leonal as shown on the 1891 and 1901 lists. The correct name is on his Birth Certificate. Lonal was killed during the Somme Battles of 1916, and his name is shown correctly on the memorial in Ruardean Parish Church and on the outside wall of Lydbrook Memorial Hall. George Henry Meek had four children and the eldest, now deceased, was named Lonal George Meek.
I gave up in frustration trying to trace my family tree some time ago and the only ambition I have now is to attempt to find when the Meeks first settled in the Forest.

what a fine mess you got me into!!! I am more confused than ever to which of the
George Meek's is my ancestor after George william.
where does Watkins fit in? I know one of the george's was born at Petty croft as
mentioned on one of the census but which line we take after that I think is pure guess
work.
One thing though after my father George Henry Meek R.I.P there are NO more Georges!
so my grand children will have an easer time tracing their ancestors
Going through all the info I have come to the conclusion that the meeks must have
populated the forest on their own
