I have been tabling all the various threads relating to Brown/Phipps,and I think I may be a bit confused. This is what I am showing so far . . .

Starting with James Riley BROWN, bap 1865, his parents are James BROWN (b. 1842) and Frances Elizabeth PHIPPS married Parkend 1864. Frances is the daughter of George PHIPPS (b. 1817) and Mary ADAMS (b. 1822), married Dec 22, 1845 at Parkend. George is the son on William PHIPPS (haven't gone further back than that yet) and Anne WAITE, married at AWRE 1815.

James BROWN (b. 1842) is the son of James BROWN (b. 1813, Newland) and Eliza PHIPPS (bap. 28 March 1813), Married 24 December 1834, Newland Eliza is the daughter of Thomas PHIPPS and Sarah STEPHENS, married 15 Jan 1811. James is the son of Thomas Brown and Elizabeth KEAR, married Sept 10, 1805, Newland. Thomas is the son of Joseph BROWN (b. 1752) and Elizabeth GRIFFITHS, (b. 1762) married 5 July 1785 . . .

James Riley BROWN (1865)was married to Julia Martha JOHNSON, b, 1865, daughter of Benjamin JOHNSON (b. 1824) and Anne KEAR (b. 1826), married 29 March, 1845, daughter of Benjamin KEAR and Charlotte ROBERTS, Benjamin is the son of Richard KEAR and Esther HARRIS, and Richard is the son of John KEAR and SARAH (?)

I think there's some connection between our families through the STEPHENS and/or GRIFFITHS lines, and I'll try to work that out later, but I wondered if I was making some sort of error with the number of KEARS and PHIPPS I am finding in non-linear progression throughout the tree . . .

And with the exception of my great uncle Jim (whose name was really Thomas), a rebel who named his son Cyril(?!!), there doesn't appear to be anyone connected to my tree anywhere there shows any inclination to name their children much of anything except Sarah, Anne, Elizabeth, William, Richard, James or George, with the occaisional Charles for light relief ... The few Benjamins and Charlotte showed a certain maverick tendency within the ranks . . .
