James Brown 1842/43 (General)

by AnneRafferty @, Saturday, December 18, 2010, 13:23 (5094 days ago)

Hi

James Brown married Frances Phipps at Parkend 17 Jan 1864. His father James was a collier. James was 21 when he married Frances and I'm trying to sort out who his parents were.

There are two possible baptisms on this site:

1. James, son of James and Eliza of Forest, a labourer, baptised 13 Sep 1842 at Coleford
James Brown married Eliza Phipps at Newland 24 Dec 1834

2. James, son of James and Margaret of Bream, a collier, baptised I Jan 1843 at Newland
James Brown married Margaret Phipps at Newland 20 Nov 1841

So which of these combinations were parents of James?? Neither birth appears on FreeBMD

I'm inclined towards James and Margaret as James snr was a collier at the time of his son's marriage to Frances

Any suggestions would be gratefully received!!

Regards
Anne

Thanks Slowhands

I didn't have the details of the 1861 census with Emily and Annise as Margaret's daughters. I wonder who their father was as James was buried at Bream 11 Aug 1848 age 27. Margaret married George Wintle at Newnham 15 Oct 1866.
Do you have details of Margaret in 1871 by any chance?

Anne

Thanks again Slowhands!

Henry Hewlett was the son of Thomas Hewlett and Sarah Morse. Henry was baptised at Bream 5 Jun 1870, his mother Sarah had been buried at Bream 2 Jun 1870. Thomas Hewlett remarried 9 Jul 1871 age 41 to Harriet Knight age 24.

It looks like Margaret and George Wintle brought Henry up from being a baby. I haven't found Henry after 1881.
