Thorney family of Walford (General)

by shevy, Monday, December 20, 2010, 18:31 (5091 days ago)

I am trying to trace back my Thorney family who seemed to all be from Walford, Herefordshire.

The furthest I am back to is George Thorney born 1824 in Walford, Herefordshire son of William and Mary Thorney.

I think the mother Mary's maiden name may of been Hawkins, as I found a marriage for the 4 Jun 1821 St Mary De Lode, Gloucester. Although not sure if this is correct marriage, as according to the 1841 census Mary was born in the county of Herefordshire and I am presuming that they would of married in the parish that Mary was from. The year of marriage does however tie in with the birth of all their children.

I can't locate any baptism for my William Thorney a farmer in Walford, who would of been born about 1791, most likely in the Walford area also.

Mary's year of birth would of been about 1800 according to the 1841 census.

Any help would be appreciated. I live in Canada, so can't get to record offices in the UK in person.

Thanks in advance.

thank you for that

it definately looks like Mary's baptism.

Was Lugwardine far from Walford? That does look like a possibility for his baptism.
