My Grandfather was John Preece 1867-1943 married to Amelia Ann Welch 1871-1930 who was the daughter of Mary Ann Welch (nee Cowmeadow) and Joseph Welch. My Great Grandfather was Edward Preece 1840-1904 married in 1862, at Cinderford, to Mary Ann Bailey 1847 Birmingham - 1895 Drybrook.
I believe that that Robert Preece who married Susannah Bailey at Ruardean in 1831 are my X2 Great Grandparents.
I also understand that Mary Ann Bailey was the illegitimate daughter of Phoebe Bayley (change of spelling) who married George Hodges at Ross Register Office in 1850.
Can anyone confirm these details and, hopefully, add more?

Hello,
We are very distant relations through the Cowmeadows. If you are interested in the Cowmeadows Mary Ann was the illegitimate daughter of Hannah Cowmeadow and Joseph Turner. Hannah herself was the daughter of James Cowmeadow (d.1821) and Mary nee Tingle. You will find the family discussed at length on past threads. We have established the family basically to the beginning of the 17th century. There are some fascinating stories here which you will find if you put the names in "search".
Hannah's sister Hester is my great x3 grandmother.

Carole,
Thank you for your reply to my post.
Yes, I have been through all the posts about Hannah Cowmeadow and her family. It is all very interesting.
It is the Preece line that I am most anxious to persue together with the Bailey and Hodges. They are proving to be rather tricky.

Thank you m p griffiths and slowhands for providing me with so much detail.
I wondered if either of you, or indeed anyone else, can tell me if Standons is a house or district and where?
Do you have any suggestions as to how I can find Robert Preece's parents?
Hope I am not asking too much.
Peter Preece.
STENDERS
by m p griffiths , Tuesday, January 04, 2011, 20:04 (5079 days ago) @ Peter Preece
???? could be Stenders
If you use the Advanced Search, there are over 100 baptisms with address given as (the) Stenders - 69 of them at Drybrook - so obviously an area
On the 1881 Census, Stenders is : Westbury on Severn, East Dean, District 7 - Page 1 for a few houses, then the address becomes Drybrook.
Road :
The Stenders
Mitcheldean
