I have found her marriage to William Jordan in 1860 at Westbury-on-Severn.

Did she emmigrate with her husband to Lyttleton, Christchurch, New Zealand arriving 1st February 1878 on the Vessel 'Canatic' ?

Hi
I have searched for a passenger list for the Carnatic for 1878, but have had no luck I am afraid.

I have found a newspaper article from the Lyttelton Times describing the voyage, which may interest you if you are satisfied the family came out on that ship. I can email it to you if you contact me off list. Nice quote:

"The whole of the immigrants look uncommonly well and hearty, and appear to be a really good and serviceable body of people." Note the emphasis on the qualities expected of immigrants to a colony! The writer might have said the same thing about an import of cattle or sheep!

Good luck finding a passenger list...
John

I missed that one, because I didn't know familysearch had some passenger list images for NZ.

The images for Carnatic (arrived Lyttelton, Canterbury, 1 February 1878) show:

William 35, Glos, Farm Lab
Martha 32
Thomas 16
Fanny 14
Cassina 13
William 7
John 4
Sarah 3

The name Thomas is crossed out and annotated transferred to Single Men. The names of Fanny and Cassina are similarly crossed out, and transferred to Single Women. Their names are then re-listed in those sections of the passenger list.

I assume from this that there was insufficient room in the family accommodation to hold all the Jordans, and the older children were therefore transferred to the cabins for SM and SW respectively. This is only my assumption, but the Carnatic was a small vessel that only carried 150 passengers, so this seems feasible.
