The PARKER family 1810-1841 (General)

by marilyn kirk @, Tuesday, May 23, 2006, 02:33 (6760 days ago)

I am trying to trace my family in the Forest of Dean.
I haven't been able to find them on the 1841 census, but in 1851 they had moved to Kingswinford,Staffs.
They are
WILLIAM 1810 Forest of "Dains"
ABIAH 1811 Forest of "Dains" in 1851, ST BRAIVELS HOUND in 1861.
and 3 children born there
HANNAH 1832 DRYBROOK
PHILIP (Philipp in 1851) 1838
Ephraim 1839
Any help would be much appreciated.
Marilyn

Thank you Slowhands.
I will try the alternative names you have listed. I have also heard of "strays". I will search these if I can find them.
I hope William and Abiah will turn up among someones family eventually.
More complicated St Braivels being so near the Welsh border.
I have not heard of the name Abiah before. Is this Welsh do you know?

Abiah is a biblical name - there was/is a strong tradition in the Forest.

Hi Marilyn,

Have you got any further with finding William on the 1841 census? Great if you have. I spotted your original post whilst doing a search for the name Parker which I also have in my family. What caught my eye is that your William was b. abt. 1810 in forest of Dean and his wife Abiah was b. abt 1811 and you also mentioned the Hundred of St. Briavels as a birth place for her.

Well, I have a William Parker b. abt 1811 Tidenham on my tree and wonder if he could be a match with yours. Do you have your William's parents?

Joanne.
