Parish chapel, Ruardean (General)

by Rachandgarry, Tuesday, January 18, 2011, 09:50 (5066 days ago)

Hi there

Within the parish records, I can see one of my family was buried in 1905 at

"parish chapel, ruardean".

Which church would that be?

They lived in Drybrook.

Many thanks
Rachel

If it`s a Non-conformist chapel I would need the complete reference to answer your question, but if it is in the Church of England it would be at St John`s church in Ruardean.

Wow, thank you Graham. I'm pretty sure I looked around that church yard on a visit to the area, in the hope of seeing a name I knew - I couldn't find anything. Do you know if it would be the church warden I need to contact to see if there's an exhaustive list of people buried there?

Also (sorry to be a pain), this burial is a generation or so down the line, from a nearby village I think. Any idea which church this would be?

Any idea why the cause of death and memoranda aren't filled in for most records? Was it not something generally recorded?

Many, many thanks

Yes this is the Forest Church in Drybrook on Harrow Hill.

Is that the big one here:

http://maps.google.co.uk/maps?f=q&source=s_q&hl=en&geocode=&q=Harrow+Hi...

Again, I looked all round that churchyard and there don't seem to be any of the relatives I have listed as buried there. Who would I contact to find out where their burial plot is?

Thanks again
Rachel

I am transcribing Ruardean Churchyard Memorial Inscriptions.
On my records is a Horace MMO Mansell son of William and Elizabeth (of Morse Lane) died May 25 1898 aged 5 years. Is this a connection

Hi there,

Thank you for posting that; I would love it to be a connection but having just looked through all my records, I don't think it is. My 'tree' goes:

George Mansell (1820 - 1881, married Elizabeth Robinson)
- their son, William Mansell (abt 1840 - 1905, married Jane then re-married Maria Cook)
-- their son, Tom Cook Mansell, born 1880, married Sarah Coopey in 1899. haven't found death yet)
--- their daughter, Mary Coopey, born 1899 (they married after she was born, ahem!)

The family really didn't leave the Ruardean, Drybrook areas so they all have to be buried there somewhere :-( Wish I could find them.

(for reasons way too long to explain, this connection is really important to me as it explains where the surname on my birth certificate comes from!)

Thanks again
Rachel
