Sarah AL Wood/Griffiths, son Charles Henry, Upton Bishop (General)
by lucydawn, Thursday, February 10, 2011, 13:18 (5042 days ago)
Hi,
my great great grandmother Sarah Ann Lavinia Wood (I think she was known as Annie), 1873-1946 of Upton Bishop, married my great great grandfather Samson Griffiths of Ross in 1898.
My grandfather has the birth certificate of Charles Henry Wood, born in 1894, before Annie married Samson. The fathers name is not recorded. As far as we are aware, Samson is not Charles Henry's father.
I am not sure when Charles Henry died, but my grandfather does remember him.
Does anyone of Upton Bishop remember him or know what became of him?
Or does anyone have any advice for how we could find out who his father may have been?
On the birth certificate Annie is recorded to be a domestic servant, I have heard that it wasn't uncommon for women servants to become pregnant by one of the males in the household, has anyone else come across this?
It's unlikely we'll find out but any advice would be really appreciated!
Thanks!
Lucy

Thanks for the lead onto all the military records! I'd looked on there before and only seen the first doccument I didnt realise there were 28!
My grandad tells me the finger injury happened when his finger got slammed in the door at the pub in Upton Bishop. Apparently it was a story retold a lot!
Thanks again,
Lucy
