Edwin Harper was born April 8, 1838 in Monmouthshire, Wales, parents were John Harper (1802-1850 Ruardean) and Mary Ann Brace(?). Edwin's spouse was Mary Ann (last name UNKNOWN). Edwin had a child Mary Matilda Harper born Dec 29, 1862 Ross on Wye.

I am trying to find Edwin Harper's death and also his wife's maiden name. The Harper family all lived in the Ruardean area.

Any information would be appreciated.

Thanks for the replies. William Harper is Edwin Harper's uncle ( son of John Harper 1778-1847 ) and Ann Davis ( 1779-1853 ). Edwin stayed with William in the 1861 Census.

Edwin is a bit of a mystery as there is very little data on him. Edwin had two older brothers, Thomas and James Martin Harper of which there is data about but not Edwin. I'm sure I will get some valuable clues to my search on this forum.

Thanks for the reply. Harper / Yemm is something I haven't come accross before. William Harper is Edwin Harper's uncle, son of John Harper (1778-1847) and Ann Davis (1779-1853).

William Harper married Elizabeth Penn (1819-?) in Clifton, Gloc., July 1838.

William marring YEMM is something I will look into and try to piece together to see where it fits.

Thanks for this insight to Lucy Yemm. Yes I think William Harper married Lucy Yemm in 1839. They had a child Mary Ann Harper Oct-Dec 1843. Lucy dies 1844 and William remarries to Elizabeth Penn in 1846.

I think Mary Ann Harper dies in Feb 1872, Ruardean as there are no marriages that fit for her and there are no mentions of her in census data.

Its starting to make some sense now as a result of your help. Edwin's mother Mary Ann Brace must have died in 1839 when Edwin was 1 year old. He then went to live with his grandparents John and Ann Harper and when they died he went on to board with his uncle William Harper (1814-1895) and wife Elizabeth Penn (1819?) because his father John Harper ( 1802-1850) had died in 1850 leaving him no parents at the age of 12 years. Thank you for helping me piece this together.

My wife is descended from Richard Harper son of John and Ann Davis who was baptised in Ruardean in 1808. I have traced the family back to the marriage Joseph Harper and Mary Morse at Walford in 1733, but there is no trace of Joseph Harper before that date.
