Locations of bequests in will of James Drew 1855 (General)

by unknown, Saturday, February 26, 2011, 18:06 (5023 days ago)

I have a copy of page one of the will of James Drew who died in 1855 (frustratingly, not page two!). In it, several parcels of land are left to his offspring: James, Absalom and Catherine (wife of Arthur James Hayes). Does anybody have any idea where any of the following places might have been?

Tingle's Patch situate at Littledean Woodside
Tommy's Patch ... and also all that Piece of Land called Kitty's Patch both situate at Littledean Woodside
South Ha?wood in the said Township of East Dean (I can't make out the 3rd letter of this name)

I do realise that this is a long shot, as the pieces of land may well just have been called after their previous owners. I have tried hunting through what old maps I can get my hands on, but nothing I have found goes back far enough to be even a little bit useful.

So, does anybody recognise anything?

In addition, was there a fixed size for a "Patch" in the way that I think there was for a "Messuage"?

Regards,
Sian.

Today you would find these locations in Cinderford / Heywood.

Thank you, Slowhands. I thought this might be as far it would be possible to go.

Page one came from the Gloucester Record Office: my mother went there and made a copy. She only realised that it was incomplete later. Whether they have more of it than she saw I don't know. I hope to find out soon!
