Charles James TIPPINS born Coleford 1876 (General)
by jancooper, Saturday, February 26, 2011, 19:39 (5023 days ago)
I have just joined the FHS. My relative Charles James Tippins was born in Coleford in 1876. His father Charles Porter Tippins (married to Julia Mary Griffiths his mother,) died in 1880 aged 34 years of Chronic alcoholism and injuries to head. He was a Wine and Spirit Merchant in Market Place (in 1870 Kelly Directory. Charles James was only 5 and family rumour has it that he was sent to Bluecoats School or similar. He was living with his grandparents Elizabeth (nee Green) and James Griffiths at the Angel Hotel Market Place Coleford in the 1881 Census when he was 5 but I can't track him until aged 15 living in Sunderland with his aunt Elizabeth in the 1891 Census. Any knowledge of the family gratefully received. There was a photo on the gallery of the Angel Hotel date uncertain, I did wonder if he might be on that.

Advice re contacting other forum members.

Hi Peter, welcome to the forum.
Please may I suggest you may like to edit your posts to remove your personal email address - see the "Help-FAQ" section (from top blue menu bar) to see why. Sadly you leave yourself open to receiving spam email (and worse) from unscrupulous internet watchers worldwide.
Secondly, if you return to Jan's post you'll see her name is still displayed in blue, which is good. This shows she's been active on the forum within the last 12 months (Sometimes new posters try to reply to much older threads/posts hoping to contact members who's names are displayed in grey and are hence highly unlikely to see their intended messages).
The blue text shows it's a hyperlink. If you click on it you can see she hasn't actually been on the forum very often at all, and not for some months, so it's unlikely she'll see your post very soon if at all. However via the same hyperlink you can send her a direct email which hopefully she'll see next time she opens her email inbox, irrespective of looking on the forum. Also this is a much safer means of sending personal contact details etc.
I do hope this helps and you make contact soon.
Atb Jeff.
ps I'll also send this message via your direct mail form.
