Yes they must have been non - conformists as I can't find any baptism records of any of the children. John Crook was a mine manager in the Forest of Dean from abt 1870 to abt 1880 for whom or where I don't know, after it was closed by flooding he opened a photographer shop then one day he received a letter saying there was a mine managers job in the USA so shortly after the 1881 census were taken they left for USA. What I would like to know is did ships leave from Ross-on-Wye for USA as I'm unable to find which ship they salied on and we think landed in New York. Oh! by the way the letter was a hoax there was no such job waiting for them when they arrived. Thanks to everyone for their help so far. Regards Kilrudden.
