Isaiah ROOK b 1887 Coleford (General)
I am trying to work out what happened to Isaiah Rook. He was one of the sons of Joseph Rook(e). Joseph Rooke was born 1856/1857 /Baptised January 28th 1857, Monmouth district; died August 2nd 1942 in Broadwell, Coleford. Joseph's wife being Elizabeth Hale (nee Fox) (widow when she married Joseph), they married on October 14th 1880. Isaiah had 7 siblings, some of whom I have found out quite a lot about.
Isaiah was born on 6th March 1886 in West Dean and was baptised September 18th 1887 (C of E) in Coleford. Isaiah is spelt, on the 1911 census as Isiah. He was still alive in 1919 as he was witness at his brother, Joseph's wedding. His occupation was listed as coal hewer. In 1911 he was living in Pontypridd.
There could have been two Isaiah Rooks in the UK at the same time as he lived or they could be one and the same person. He could therefore have been in WW1 and it appears he probably had a war pension.
The only other reference I can find to an Isaiah Rook is one dying in Yorkshire in 1935, he is listed as a collier. This man married a Ms. Farrell.
It is possible that he could have lived in Barnsley as another relative moved up to Barnsley, Charles Rook (his uncle, son of Paul Rook) (see photograph on this website). The latter lived in Worsborough and Worsborough Dale (Barnsley). My mother used to say a relative lived in Wombwell/Barnsley but she never said who and I am wondering if this could have been Isaiah? It could, however, equally have been a relative of the wife of Charles Rook who lived in Wombwell or someone else.
Can anyone shed any light on this mystery?
