As there were two Samuel Whittingtons born 1849 who did your Samuel marry?. If it was a Caroline Wintle then he came from Lydney not Coleford.:-

i think he was my grandad my dad his son was regitered in Coleford i have his birth certificate to verify this, but thank you for the update i am sure you are right because my grandad was married to caroline wintle.
