Kear family bible (General)

by AverilKear @, Forest of Dean, Wednesday, June 08, 2011, 17:31 (4921 days ago)

I have in my possession a VERY LARGE family bible given to William Court Kear by his wife Maria (nee Allen). They married in St Briavels church in 1842 and it lists all their children Mary, Sarah, William,John, Ann and Hannah from 1842 - 1851.
If anyone would like this bible please let me know, I do not require payment for the book but if it needs to be posted I should require postal costs as it is quite heavy.
The bible is in good condition apart from the front cover which has come adrift from the rest. It is leather bound and has gilt edging to the pages. The bible measures 12 inches tall by 10 inchers wide and 3 1/2 inches deep.

Be careful that the person who says they want it is not doing so for the wrong reasons e.g. does not have it for financial gain; is not related etc. Have you considered placing it in an archive, library or museum? e.g. Gloucestershire Archive or with the Forest of Dean resource at the Dean Heritage Centre; a religious texts library for the branch of Christianity the family were part of etc. that way a wide range of people would get pleasure from it and its contents could be put on microfiche.
I'm going to donate some of my things to these kinds of resources to protect them for future generations and to benefit the general public and historians. It's not financial value they have but historical value or value to particular antecedents.

Thank you for your reply and comments.
As an ex Archivist I am well aware that SOME early bibles may have a value but this version was mass produced and has no value other than to the descendants of the family of William Court Kear, who I hope may see this and come forward.

Hi Averil, you may want to also remove your contact details from your posting and let people contact you through the forum. Better safe than sorry.

Good luck and I hope the Bible finds a suitable home.

Do you still have the bible? If so, I am interested.
Thanks in advance!
