Brewery in Lydney (General)

Hi Samantha,

I don't know of anything specific, but there could have been what we now call "micro breweries" attached to any of the larger pubs in Lydney at this time. Whilst the majority of the tied houses were linked to Wintles Brewery at Mitcheldean, Stroud Brewery Co, Cheltenham Brewery, Alton Court Brewery (Ross on Wye) or the like, many free houses brewed their own.

The Blakeney Brewery, also known as the Dean Forest Steam Brewery was acquired by Arnold Perrets of Wickwar who then established "Local Offices and Stores" at Hill Street, Lydney, Albion Square, Chepstow and Old Brewery, Blakeney from where they supplied their customers.

Hill Street, Lydney may be the most relevant to your query.

Otherwise, check Kelly's Directory for the period, see also "Gloucestershire Pubs and Breweries" by Tim Edgell and Geoff Sandles, Tempus, 2005, ISBN 0 7524 3524 8

Regards,
AJB
