Hello Kirsty,
My name is Cindy Thomas and I am researching my husbands ancesters in FoD. I just came across this marvelous resource site yesterday and am thrilled. I can already see it is going to hold so many answers to questions we have been searching for many years. His paternal lines are all from FoD. I need to study how the fourm format really works because I have never participted in one before. But I had to post at least one query to see if I get a reply. I'm not even at a location where I have my material with me so can't get too specific right now.
What I do know is that your Elizabeth (Mortimer) and Alfred Harris are my husband's great grandparents. Their daughter Elizabeth (born abt 1878) emigrated to U.S. and married Charles William Thomas. They returned to FoD in 1900 for a period of about 8 years. They had four children, one of which (Reginald born FoD in 1900) is my husband Graham's father.
I am trying to fill in all the huge holes we've had over the years. But for now I hope you can answer or shed light on another person. That would be William & Ann Mortimer's daughter Sarah (b abt 1842). Do you know anything about her?
Because I am new to the site and have been unsuccesfully searching for a while, I have a feeling she might be a missing link I need. My Sarah Mortimer's father was William and mother's name was unknown. My Sarah was born in Bristol in 1842 and married Mark Thomas abt 1860 and emigrated to the U.S. abt 1873-76.
If interested, I will fill in more of what I know if we are on the right track with the same people. In the meantime, I'll study how to post the threads so they make sense with names and dates. Look forward to hearing back from you.
Cindy
