I am looking to find more information on my Mother's family, her parents were Frederick Harrison and Marion Turner Harrison. Her father died in 1951, whilst attending a council meeting in Lydney, her mother died soon after. My Mother was Barbara Helen Reeks (nee Harrison). I understand that there was a connection to the Howells family (Edgar Howells was, I believe, a cousin). I live in France so more local search is difficult. My father's family also came from Woolaston, but more information on them would also be helpful. Ali 17800

So Ellen, was my Great Grandmother - I believe she was a Howells or is it Howell?
Other Howell cousins ran a fruit and veg shop (I believe in Lydney) called Harrison and Howells - can anyone enlighten me please? thanks.

Henry Harrison of Lydney, Salmon fishing c1900
by Jefff , West London, Middlesex, Sunday, January 25, 2015, 23:23 (3593 days ago) @ m p griffiths
Amongst hundreds of hits on "Lydney" that can be found within the Welsh Newspapers website, most of which describe unpleasant events such as the dangers of the railways, it's a pleasure to relate this relatively innocuous report; albeit still not good news for the likes of Henry Harrison as described as a Water Bailliff in the above thread's 1911 Census.
from the Cardiff Times of 22nd December 1900
DECLINE OF THE SALMON FISHING INDUSTRY,
At a meeting at Lydney on Tuesday of those holding licencss (other than rod and line) from the Severn Fishery Board Messrs Charles Morse, Blakeney, and Henry Harrison, Lydney. with O. Nome, Portskewett, and E. Ball, Woolaston, in reserve, were elected to give evidence before the Royal Commission appointed to inquire into the causes of the decline of the salmon fishing industry.
