Will of Daniel ROBERTS of Newland 1775/174 (General)
I received the will of Daniel ROBERTS of Newland from the Gloucester Archives today. It was disappointing in that it didn't mention "my" Margaret ROBERTS, or any Margaret at all, but it did contain information that I think might be interesting to others on the board (didn't mpgriffiths mention an Ann ROBERTS who married a STEPHENS in her family tree?)
Daniel owns two houses, and a "coleworks". He leaves all to his beloved wife Elizabeth, providing she remains a widow. After her demise, he leaves one house to his son in law, Benjamin STEPHENS, husband of his daughter Ann, and another to his other son in law, George STEPHENS, husband of his daughter Betty. He also leaves 50 shillings to Ann LLOYD or FLOYD when his sons-in-law inherit, provided she has reached her majority.
After his wife's passing, the daughters each inherit a half share in his "coleworks". He names the house in which he is currently living, and the coleworks, however the copy is not particularly clear and I haven't been able to make any sense of them yet.
There are marriage records on this site for both the daughters, however, the only birth for Ann I could find in the requisite time period was to Daniel and Mary in Ross-on-Wye. This may not be the correct christening, or it could be that Elizabeth is a second wife.
Hope this is useful to someone . . .
