Two birth records for Mary MILES (General)
by isherwop , Wednesday, July 13, 2011, 08:55 (4886 days ago)
Can someone please suggest an explanation for these two contradictory baptismal records FOD Record IDs 8321 and 265639. Both are for Mary MILES daughter of William and Phebe MILES on 18 Feb 1810. One took place at Coleford Parish Chapel and the other at Newland Parish Chapel. The Newland record adds that Mary was born 14 August 1808 at Coleford Chapel! Thanks, Peter I

In my admittedly limited experience it wasn't that unusual to be Baptised more than once, at different places, although admittedly these notes are rather odd !
I see there's quite a few Mary Miles being born/Baptised in the Forest around that time, although of course only the above two have Wm & Phoebe. I did wonder if, from the odd dates, these are actually two different Marys with the first dying as an infant ?.. I've seen such things a few times in my own research.
However I cannot find a relevant Burial Record on this site.
Looking at all Mary Miles Marriage Records for Newland & Coleford abt 1820 or so only gives this one.

Sadly no parent's names or brides' age quoted to check against.
Despite this site having PRs for 49 Mary Jones in Newland alone I cannot see your Mary's, so again no clues there, sorry.
Daft question but do you know for definite if there were one or perhaps two Marys ?.
Just a thought...

PS WRONG AGAIN !
Like a FOOL I didnt spot that both records show the SAME baptism dates.
Serves me right, I should have been trying to solve my multitude of other problems instead of reading this addictive website.
SORRY !

At this time Coleford was a Chapelry of Newland, so a number of baptisms are recorded in both registers.

We see similar duplication with Bream and Newland
