Thanks Gill,

I think this is the same person. Do you have any idea who his parents were? I have a Samuel and Mary, but don't know her maiden name or any other details of Samuel. Not sure where you are located, but I am going to be in Forest of Dean in Sept and hope to have a look at some of the cemetaries. Do you have any info about where I should look?
Thanks, Jenny

Hi,
This is my family! Samuel and Eliza Jones (nee Hulin) were my ggg grandparents and they ended up immigrating to Australia. Their son Thomas was my line. I have Samuel's parents as Samuel and Esther (nee Prosser) and Samuel senior must have died as Esther remarried a William Bromley. Did you end up finding info while you were in this area?

Thanks,

Yes that's my Edward & Ruth. I have their marriage cert & a copy of the registry entry, Hence I got to Samuel, where as most of the ancestry trees have his father as John.

I found Samuel & Elizabeth but I also found another Samuel Jones of the right age also living in the right place at the right time. So frustratingly without Edwards birth, & his mother name, I can't be sure which Samuel is definitely his. I know either Edward or Ruth's lines go back to Ireland & the other Samuel is born in Ireland. Although Ruth's mother was Maria Bailey & her fathers mother was Bridget both of which could potentially indicate Irish. I know the surnames (I believe mothers) around this time I should find a Smith & a Lacey. I think some of the Lacey girls married very well from what I remember.

My Mom died young & I so wish I'd written everything down before she died! But I could remember it then! She could recite all the names back to Ireland taught to her by her grandmother Sarah Anne who was Edward & Ruths Granddaughter. I'm not sure whether my mom learnt it cause she was nosey or whether it was something to do in the long hours spent in the air raid shelter :-) I have lots of their things as well which is all Irish Gold.

Thanks for your help

Hi again,

Musing on Edward & Samuel again.

I would say 1819 is correct for Edwards birth. Later census give 1819 & his death cert give's 1819.

The Edward born to Samuel Jones & Elizabeth Reece is baptised in 1823 so I am dubious this is his family.

Grrrr so frustrating!

Rgds
