Marriage 17 January 1763, Richard MALSON and Susannah VINER at Abenhall. Witnesses Josiah VAUGHN and John NElmE. Following births also registered at Abenhall:

1768 26 June, Richard
1771 4 Feb, John
1774 6 March, William
1778 19 Aug, Mary
1783 2 June, Mary

Keep in mind dates can be a little vague. The 1841 census suggests my ggggrandfather was born in 1781. In reality he was born in 1772 . . .

Could this be "your" William ?

Searching for William MALSON abt 1788

by harvo @, Saturday, July 16, 2011, 21:01 (4882 days ago) @ Jefff

Hi Jeff,
Thank you so much for your reply,Were you really up till 2:40 am posting it ?

You are on the right track as the William I seek is the one who married Sarah Newton Hunt,as you rightly say no parents are declared on the marriage entry, hence the dilemma.
The witnesses Richard Lowe[believe a church warden] was married to Sarah Newton Hunts sister and the Lowes and Malson's lived in the same property in Lady Grove Abenhall[on 1841 census].I think Hannah Thomas was born Malson [she may have married twice] Daughter of Richard Malson and Hannah formerly Yearsley.
For a while the William Milson born 1780 was a front runner even though the dates did not match, however this bubble burst when it was brought to my attention that a memorial stone in St Briavels Church yard gave his demise .This stone commemorates the death of William Milson Lieutenant on HMS Minotaur which was lost off the Dutch Coast in 1810 with most of the crew, having struck underwater rocks.

As you can see i have been down this route, sadly with no luck ,I do thank you for input as any clue may just produce the answers i require
Best Wishes Harvo

Good "morning" Harvo,
yes I was but its no problem to me, nice quiet time for thinking, I'm a bit nocturnal if not batty..
That said at least this beginner also spotted the link between Lowe and t'other Hunt sister.

I admit I thought you may have seen the Milson entry, but looking at your posting history suggested (incorrectly I see) that maybe you were new to this game and that perhaps you might fall for that short of trap as many others do.
Ah well I consider myself well and truly "sunk" then. Just goes to show that sometimes you can't beat actually doing the legwork and visiting the Churches etc.

Maybe next time, meanwhile good luck.

How are you certain that this is your William ?. What were you clues ?.

Searching for William MALSON abt 1788

by harvo @, Sunday, July 17, 2011, 16:41 (4882 days ago) @ Jefff

Hi Jeff,
Suppose someone has to do the night shift eh !

To answer your question the William buried 9 December 1860 is no longer on the 1861 census with his family, the family still at home were wife Sarah and son George they were enumerated at Plump Hill.I guess they had to move out of what may have been a tied cottage in Lady Grove when William died ?,he being a labourer,or because George was a miner [Iron]and it was nearer work?
The other William of 1779 [son of Richard and Hannah Yearsley] who married Anne Smith, unfortunately their children's names were not the ones i was looking for in a previous search ie;a John of 1827,so out of the frame.

I do thank you for taking the trouble to do look ups and to write, you are right i have been searching for many years ,and this is one ,not the only one ,of my more frustrating family searches ,we have all had them .

My best wishes Harvo

I have Hannah Malson born 1763, who married John Thomas 12 Jun 1791 Newland as daughter of Richard Malson and Susanna Viner.
Looking at Hannah's birth date and that of William c 1788 who married Sarah could it be possible that William was the illegitimate son of Hannah? Possibly named after her brother William born 1774. Just a thought, but it would explain why she was a witness at William and Sarah's wedding!

Just to complicate things further, Richard Lowe's daughter Hannah's illegitimate daughter Elizabeth Lowe married the William Malson who was the son of William Malson and Catharine Gibbs, neither of them being your William I think.

We're probably related six different ways to every Malson that ever came out of Westbury on Severn, the problem is just proving it.

It's at this point I usually visit Youtube and listen to the theme tune from Deliverance.

On a serious note, here is a reason why your elusive baptism may have been delayed or never took place: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Stamp_Duties_Act_1783

Cheers.

Hi,
Thank you for that information and your time and trouble, the tax you mention had been brought to my attention, and all possibilities are worthy of consideration.

I had not picked up on Elizabeth Lowe being the illegitimate daughter of Hannah Lowe ,the daughter of Richard Lowe.
You are right she married William Malson b1815 son of William and Catherine Gibbs, and you are right again sadly neither of these William's are the one i am looking for, that would be too easy ?

Clearly you have Malson connections,to whom do you belong?

You have obviously found an answer to your frustrations with the choice of Deliverance, might see if it works ?????

Thank you again Harvo

Belong to William & Catherine/Kitty which is how I know a little about the Lowes.

Elizabeth moved to Wales with her two sons, one of whom, Arthur William was my
Great Grandfather.

I was informed very recently that our two lines joined in the marriage of James Malson to Fanny Malson 6 Feb 1853, Cinderford St John, but still hopeful of a common ancestor centuries earlier.

David and i share a Great Grandmother so are cousins [once removed ?],if i am right you will be aware that the Malson Link has been our most recent project without a great deal of success beyond the William i seek the birth of.

I am the older cousin he refers to Trevor

Guessed you might be, as have seen your related posts at Rootschat.

Tried to lend a hand recently but only ended up covering old
ground that you had already dealt with.
