If you look at the Gloucestershire Genealogical Database (they hold non-conformists data) - useful for other FOD births etc.

and search for Jasper FOWLER

you will find the they were non-conformists, and Jasper & Hannah's children's are listed including Humphrey 1822 & Samuel - also John Porter FOWLER - 1818 (hence John P FOWLER named later)

click on the surname - and each child's name comes up with parents etc.

I can see a John P FOWLER, age 2 in Berwick, Glasgow St John, Infantry Barracks+ also in this Infantry Block

Jasper FOWLER, (Private) age 14, born Sodbury, Chipping, William FOWLER, Private Infantry Block, age 19, born Chipping Sodbury and Amelia FOWLER - 7 months.

Jasper FOWLER is on the 1881 Census at Gloucester - Asst Steward County Asylum (age 43 born Chipping Sodbury)

----

On later census, Elizabeth RYAN says she was born in New Windsor, Berkshire c1832

1841 Census, Berkshire, New Windsor, District Infantry Barracks, New Windsor (1st Battalion the 60th?)

listed under Soldiers Children:

Mary RYAN, 16 - not born in County - says born Ireland
Eliza RYAN - 9 - not born in County
Ellen RYAN 3 years and 4 months - not born in County
William RYAN - 0 or 6

-----

so it's a military/Scottish background to your family, hence problems with marriages etc.

----

1841 Census, Kent, Gillingham (hundred of Chatham & Gillingham)
District Brompton Barracks

Humphrey FOWLER - 15 - Soldier - not born in County

-----

On the 1901 census, Humphrey FOWLER is in Lancs, Stretford, Pensioner (Police Force) living next door to a John SIMPSON occupation Letterpress printer.

Probate on Ancestry

I'll send you the Joseph & Lydia info (off line - as they are Frampton Cotterell and Aberchan, Monmouthshire) - and never had any connection with the Forest of Dean area (unlike Humphrey and his family, albeit briefly in 1861)

Humphrey Fowler (family non-conformists)

by rock73 @, Saturday, July 23, 2011, 16:26 (4876 days ago) @ m p griffiths

Thank you very much for the info on Humphrey Fowler, there is a lot of info for which I am very grateful. i am quite new to genealogy and have just finished researching my dads Irish side and the Fowlers are my moms side.
i have had difficulties as my moms family were not close and therefore know little about them.

The reason I am interested in Humphrey and Joseph is I am looking into Frederick Fowler who was my great great grandfather who married a Maria Davies Abergevenny 1892
I am trying to figure out which one was his father,
Frederick also had a son called Frederick Boswell Fowler b1894 Abergevenny, Married Matilda Harper, west Bromwich 1924. his father was called Frederick Boxton Fowler.
I found these unusual names from rootsweb Parish Records.

I am extremely grateful for any assistance as i am researching my tree on no budget lol

if you have any info on Joseph you can email me.

Thanks again

Karen Evans

Hi Karen, Last week I purchased two victorian photograph albums from Stroud which appear to have originated from a branch of the Fowler family. The smaller of the two albums includes [see list below] 44 carte de visite photographs circa 1860-70 many annotated in pencil. The larger album contains later circa 1880-1900 cabinet cards & carte de visites.

These may be of interest in your research.

Regards

Hi Chris,
welcome to this great forum !

May I suggest you might like to consider emailing Karen directly to ensure she sees your very kind offer. If you click on the Envelope icon next to her username against her post, you can contact her straight to her email inbox. I say this as she's only ever posted twice on the forum before, a few months ago, and may not still be a regular forum reader. (You can also see this useful info by clicking on her username).

I do hope this helps, Jeff.

ps You may even like to consider posting your pics onto the "Old Photos" section of this site; if you look around the site you'll see there is a huge amount of fantastic information available here, such as documents, books and photos, as well as the Parish Records and the Forum. We are SO lucky !

Ooops, fair enough, "its a fair cop".
Must admit I added that when instead I should have read the whole thread, or not get involved at all perhaps. Anyway I'll edit my post now, thanks again !.

Christchurch Monmouthshire vs Christchurch FoD

by slowhands @, proud of his ancient Dean Forest roots, Tuesday, September 20, 2011, 15:58 (4817 days ago) @ Jefff

I think the Christchurch Monmouthshire is today part of the Newport, South Wales area ( between Newport and Caerleon). http://www.genuki.org.uk/big/wal/MON/Christchurch/index.html

Of course the Christchurch FoD is Berry Hill - Coleford way :-)
