Street name changes in Cinderford? Abbey and Woodside? (General)

by tracey @, Gloucester, Saturday, August 13, 2011, 13:33 (4855 days ago)

Can anyone clarify for me whether Abbey Street and Woodside Street in Cinderford were previously known as Abbey ROAD and Woodside ROAD?? On my ancestor's census records in 1891 for example, both are recorded as ROAD. Is this just an error on the part of the enumerator doing the census or an accurate record of previous names? I cannot find any official records of name changes.

Any help gratefully received.

Just by using the Advance Search on this forum (baptisms/marriages etc) just by putting in address

Cinderford St John & Cinderford St Stephen - there are baptisms/marriages from 1875 to 1920 (Abbey Street + Abbey Road 1891

and baptisms from 1874 - (Woodside Road)

so going through the FOD records and cross checking with census returns - (it may make sense?)

Physically the same properties in Abbey Road / Street and I suspect the same for Woodside Road /Street, coming down Littledean Hill towards the centre of Cinderford.
My old maps are marked with Road / Street !
