'asy !

The Grindle belongs to the neighbour , Ancestry has made a mistake , hence the [HALE] which is my attempt to clear the confusion ;-)

At the going down of the sun and in the morning
We will remember them.

GUNNER WM. HALE

As annouced in our obituary column last
week, Gunner William Hale, eldest beloved son
of Mr and Mrs Hale of the Causeway Cin-
derford has died in hospital at Brighton. He
had been wounded in the hand while on active
service and contracted influenza, pneumonia
and pleurisy. He came home on sick leave.
Returning to camp he further suffered from
influenza and a septic throat folowing, his death
taking place on the 4th inst. He was a good
son and much liked. Before joining the army
about two and half years ago he was a colliery
banksman at Crump Meadow Colliery. While
serving in France he had had one of his fingers
smashed. He was only 22 years od age. His
death has come after a period of good service
for his country and he too will be on the
honourable roll of the gallant dead. In Gunner
Hale the members of the Wesleyan connection
and especially the Band of Hope have lost an
able loyal and cheery member. He had been
connected with the Sunday School and the Band of
Hope since boyhood. He was also a member of
the Band of Hope Cricket Club. It is very
gratifying to the members of the Band of Hope
to remember that on his first leave from France
they welcomed him home with the appropriate
present of a wrist watch his own choice.
