I am trying to trace my great grandmother Kezia but no luck prior to the 1901 census where she gives her place of birth as Parkend Gloucestershire, I assume this is the village in the Forest of Dean as she is living in East Deane in 1901. The search facility does not allow me to search just for Kezia & I don't know her surname, could anyone check the records for me? I would be eternally gratefull for any help with this. Sue
Daniel & Kezia STANLEY - 1901 Census

the search facility does not allow me to search just for Kezia
All you have to do is put the wildcard symbol % in the surname box - see Search Tips
Posssible two at the moment: Keziah COLEN - in 1865 and Anna Keziah HARDWICK- 1864, but obviously these are just 'contenders'
assume you mean
1901 East Deane
Woodside Road
Daniel STANLEY - 35, Whitesmith, born London, Battersea (circa 1866) (Whitesmith - makes pots and pans)
Kezia STANLEY - 35 - born Glos. Parkend
Joseph STANLEY, 14 - General Labourer, born Hants, Portmouth
Henry STANLEY - 11, born Sussex, Brighton
What other information do you have after 1901, and this is proving 'tricky' to find any leads i.e. birth of children, marriage/1911 - and previous census'
'sometimes' people moved and changed Surnames. I know this only too well as my x Grandfather did - from WICKENDEN to GREEN, and moved County!

Hi Marilyn,
thanks for highlighting the % method to me !
Clearly being a "bloke" I didn't need to read the "tips" very well.....
Once again I learn from this great furum; Kezia/Keziah is another name I've never heard of but clearly quite common in the PRs.
Sue, if at first you don't get the "right" results when searching I suggest you look for all possible spelling variations of the name. It's quite likely that errors will have occurred during the various Census returns & PRs, eg "Kezia" may possibly give different search "hits" to Keziah, etc. Hopefully not but better to be sure.
As MPG has said please supply any known relevant family names etc to aid the search.
Do you have her marriage or burial details, please ? I guess not but even small clues can help.

Hi everyone thanks for the very quick responses. I have always known my great grandmother as Kizziah Kimber (death cert). In 1911 she was living at Clifon on Teme with her 'Husband' George KImber she gave her place of birth as Gloucester c1866. My grandfather Henry Kimber was born in Brighton c1889 & his brother Joseph Kimber in Portsmouth c1886. I have never found a marriage for George & Kizziah or births for Joseph & Henry or earlier census entries for them - then I found the 1901 entry for Daniel Stanley Kezia Joseph & Henry which I think must be my missing family. I have started searching for the Stanley family with no luck so far, Kezia gives her place of birth as Parkend in 1901 thus my entry in this forum. She died aged 66 in 1930. Sue

COLIN - 1861 census (STANLEY- Romany wesbite)
by m p griffiths , Saturday, September 24, 2011, 20:56 (4805 days ago) @ smc23
There are trees on Ancestry (mentioned before Daniel DANGERFIELD STANLEY - born Chilbolten)
and the links give him on various census, including the 1861 Census, in Hampshire, and he is a Basket Maker - with family of Hawkers, some born in Portsmouth Hants.
Probably the marriage 'Chris' found would prove decisive.

A big thank you to everyone who responded to my plea for help, the speed & enthusiasm of all respondents was wonderful & totally unexpected. I believe that Kezia Colens & Dangerfield Stanley are my missing great grandparents for whom I have been searching several years so it is thrilling to have them at last. I am now looking forward to visiting Parkend sometime in November. Sue
