I have had a reply from Graham which reads: “Hi Elizabeth, I am in total agreement with your findings. The two Williams are indeed second cousins (they share the same great grandparents Jonathan & Elizabeth Tippins. I also agree with your conclusion that it is William (1775) who married Sarah Read.

My wife is descended from William Tippins bapt 8 Nov 1807 at Ruardean, who
married Lettice Jenkins, he is the brother of your James bapt 29 Sept 1811.
My wife`s mother, who died last year aged 89, was a Tippins, she was born on
Ruardean Hill and lived her whole life in the Forest.

I have now found the baptism of Jonathan Tippins at Weston under Penyard, he
was the son of William & Experience, which is an unusual name!! I haven`t
yet found their marriage, bit I think William`s parents were John & Joyce. Happy hunting!
Graham”

Graham attached a transcript of our early Tippins family and said “If you can add any marriage or burial details I would be grateful.”

Since then I have concluded that Thomas Tippins 1745 - 1805 (bapt 2.6.1747) (died aged 60) was a base child of Eliz Tippins 1719 and not a child from Eliz’s brother Jonathan Tippins/Tippings 1723 whose son was Thomas Tippins bapt 27 Sep 1746 - 2 Oct 1746.

William Tippins bapt 22.10.1775 was a Collier and so was his father Thomas Tippins 1745 - 1805. In 1841 William 1775 was living with son Thomas 1817 also a Coal Miner and next door to son William 1807 a Coal Miner and daughter in law Letitia/Lettice 1807 and next door again was John Tippins 1792 Coal Miner and a (brother) of William 1775.

If my conclusions are correct William 1773 (a second cousin to William 1775) may have died young and was not around in 1841. His father William 1744 - 1790 was a shoemaker.

In the transcripts sent by Graham he gives Eliz Tippins/Tippings 1719 marrying Giles Loyker (also known as Gyles Lequire of Newlands) m.11 Jan 1751.

William Tippins abt 1662 - 31 Mar 1707 = Experience abt 1662 - 21 Jun 1716 were the parents of Jonathan 1687 - 1756

John Tippins abt 1637 - burial 23 Apr 1697 = Joyce abt 1637 - burial 1 Feb 1693/4 were the parents of William abt 1662.

Any further evidence would be gratefully received. I have noticed that several Tippins trees on ancestry are preferring the William Tippins 1773 to William Tippins 1775.
