Hilary, this wonderfull site's not just about the Parish Records and the Forum, there's a host of other great items to be seen including old documents, newpaper articles, EBooks, etc etc. An example is this interesting article which describes farming times around Hewelsfield, very near Woolaston, at about the time of the Great War. It particularly mentions the buying off horses for the Army.

A coincidence, but I have just researched one of my 'unknown' postcards.
It is a picture of 36 men standing outside Athlone Castle, the writer is marked with an X and he signs as AB 30550, the card was posted in Athlone October 1914, and sent to ' Dear old chum' Mr. E HARWOOD, Woodspring, Brockweir.

30550 is a valid Regiment number and The National Archive lists many, but only one with the initials AB.

Athlone Castle was a training base for the RFA.

As far as I am aware, my family has no connections, but another coincidence was that my BRYANT family rented Church Cottage, Brockweir, for the summer of 1914, perhaps the mail was mixed up.

I really enjoy sending off copies of postcards and photos to all who are interested, any takers for this one?
