Hi Paul,
it's clear that Lily's children William Jones Hodges born 1909 and Ivy Winifred Hodges born 1913 were both born "out of wedlock", certainly thats the impression from the Baptism Records. I suspect William's father is actually a William Jones, there are several of these on the Dymock PRs. I could be wrong but I don't ever recall seeing the Jones name used as anything other than a surname; my father, his grandfather etc and my son are also William Jones's so I've seen a lot of similar PRs over the last months. (And in case you're wondering no we're NOT from the Dymock area ;-)

So Thomas born abt 1890, father Thomas.
No Morris witnesses listed, were his family at the wedding ?
Thomas's residence is listed as Devonport, perhaps suggesting he's from a nautical family, despite now being a Railway Porter. Did the couple live there after the marriage ?.
Did Thomas go off to War, perhaps using his Railway skills, if so did he return ?.
Searching the FoD Baptisms theres an awful lot of Thomas Morris', with the Thomas name often being perpetuated thro the generations, so again no great clues there. Looking for his Baptism around 1890 this looks possible although not really the right area,

How did he meet Lily and where ?. Please advise where Lily is in the 1911 Census Records, any clues there ?. Presuming you have access to the Census's have you looked up Thomas's background at all, is he a Dymock man or ?

Hi Jeff, thanks for all the info you have provided, in the 1911 census Lily is single living with her parents William and Sarah at Blacklands Dymock, she is working as a domestic servant, i have not found much info for Thomas Morris other than he came from Devonport, so after marriage they may have moved away from Dymock, i will do some research for the Morris/Hodges connection at Atcham, thanks again to you all with help with this search, Paul.

Welldone Chris, I know I should have looked harder !
Sadly it suggests that maybe Thomas was perhaps a casualty of the War ?.
There are 162 T Morris's listed on the CWGC site, many of them Thomas's, I looked at abot 15 of the entries without luck, if anyone cares to search them all some of them contain details of next of kin etc. Sadly it won't allow us to enter "Thomas", just "T" ...

I don't suppose these could be their children? Atcham was the RD for Shrewsbury.

Is it possible there was a third sibling with Lily & Ethel, Lucy MARIA HODGES ?.
There's some similarities with "sister" Lily in her Marriage Records from FoD PRs:

Is it possible witness Ethel is her sister, now married ?.
From FreeBMD:
Surname Given Name Spouse District Volume Page Transcriber
Marriages Dec 1919
Cooke Willie C. Hodges Ledbury 6a 1231 rose
Suggesting that Lucy's Witnesses are Ethel and husband "Willie C".
From FreeBMD:

Births Jun 1893
Cooke Willie Charles Hereford 6a 514 jwh
This is the only Record on all of FreeBMD for any "Cooke / Ethel Hodges" Marriage, without date limits, and for all the UK !.
Not a coincidence methinks.
Searching FreeBMD nationwide for Ethel M Cooke, these stand out wrt the Atcham/Shrewsbury connection:
Surname Given Name Spouse District Volume Page Transcriber
Marriages Jun 1935
Cooke Ethel M. Harley Atcham 6a 1681 sr56
Surname Given Name Age District Volume Page Transcriber

Age abt right..
However Lucy's Baptism Record shows different mother than Lily !?

Lucy Maria Hodges born 1892 Redmarley

To the best of my knowledge Lucy Maria Hodges was the 8th child of William George Hodges of Kings Green and his wife Elisa Saunders.
I know of no connection to the family of Lily Maria Hodges.
William's sister Elizabeth Hodges was my great-grandmother.
