Maybe due to poor handwriting his forename was difficult to read and it was transcribed as Daniel instead of David from the Parish Register or transcribed as David instead of Daniel from the census.

Then FOD records have baptism at Whitchurch (about a mile away) of a William PRITCHARD 7 August 1799 - parents Daniel & Ann

On the odd occasion, the child's name was incorrectly recorded - and the father's name written down instead. This did occur in my family tree - and the Chief Archivist at the Gloucester Records Office, said this did happen from time to time.
