This post may be pointless but - There was a brass case pictured in the Review that was up for auction, what caught my eye was the name surname Shott, but I threw the paper out(yes very clever) I recently did a bit of research for a friend who's parents were Watkins and Davies from the Bream/Coleford area, and one marriage included a Caroline Shott, the daughter of Edward or Edwin Shott depending on where you look, and his wife Eliza Onions who married 1872 Walford. The Shott family in our records here go back to 1539 in Westbury. Now I'm wondering what the first name was and the date on the case, anyone got a review handy? Fred

Thanks for taking the trouble to look. I just checked and my Edwin/Edward only had. 3 daughters so not the direct link I thought there might be. Ernest has a link to Littledean while my Edward was born Aston Ingham. There will be a link somewhere I'm sure with a name like Shott. Thanks again Fred

Hi Fred
Ernest Shott Esq 1913 Little Dean Gloucestershire
Ernest Thomas Shott is a Great Uncle of mine and I too have been researching the Rodway & Shott Family trees. Born Littledean 1876, parents Thomas & Ellen they moved to Gloster where his mother died in childbirth. His father remarried Sarah Underwood and they returned to Littledean. In 1898 Ernest joined the Royal Welsh Fusiliers and fought in the Boer War. At some stage he returned to Cinderford where he lived with his sister Agnes Mary who was married to James Rodway living at 70 Dockham Road. He died in 1958. It is believed in the time after serving in the army and returning to the Forest he was a miner in Wales.

Many thanks for the data. I saw the brass snuff box at the auction but was unable to stay and bid. Presumably this may have been made by the blacksmith working at the pit where he was in 1913.
