George ELTON family, Littledean area (General)

by rachelgibbons @, Monday, November 14, 2011, 19:39 (4754 days ago)

I am looking for ancestry information for George Elton, born about 1786 and I believe around the Cinderford/Littledean area. He married Cecila or Celia Buck in 1818 Ruardean Woodside. Their children were Mary Ann, William, William and Samuel. I cannot find any baptismal records for George and am trying to find out who his parents were. Thank you.

Hi Rachel

I've also been researching this family, and have also been frustrated that I haven't been able to find George's baptism. I have a little more information about his wife, Celia. I believe her name was actually Celia Ruck (not Buck) and that she was born abt 1791 in Kilpeck, to William Ruck and Letisha Probert. If you would like any more information,or make any discoveries, please let me know.

Mell,

I would love some more information on William and Letisha if you have it. THANKS!

I had my suspicions that the last name was Ruck and Not Buck. THere is a census record that shows a John Ruck visiting Celia and George Elton and shows his birth about 1830 in Yorkley Gloucestershire. I did some searching and found his father to be John Ruck born about 1791 in Kilpeck, herefordshire. Which I believe to be Celia's brother. Also on the marriage listing for celia and George, one of the witnesses is a John Buck (Ruck).

Rachel,

I haven't done a lot of information on this family. But here's what I have found.

Celia was baptised in 1791 in Kilpeck, Herefordshire to William Ruck and Letisha (there are a lot of variants to this name) Probert. William and Letisha were married in 1787 in Upton Bishop, and they also had 4 other children I've found, John (b.1789; probably the one from the census), Letisha (b.1796), Edward (b.1797) and Mary (b.1799).

Letisha (Celia's mother) was baptised in 1761 in Upton Bishop to Francis Probert and Susanna Floyd (who were married also in Upton Bishop in 1760). Her siblings were Francis (b.1763), Mary (b.1766), Hannah (b.1786), Ann (b.1771), Martha (b.1774), Benedicta (b.1776) and Susanna (b.1777).

All of these records are on this site, so you can check my research.

Also, do you have the census records as I haven't had access to them.
