Robert Vernon Jones was a relative of mine - just. He was the father of Annie House Jones who married William Edward Ernest Pritchard on 6 October 1919, the wedding group being depicted at Blistors. John Frederick Pritchard, the bridegroom's father, ran the Lydney Coal Company and was one of the numerous siblings of my great-grandmother Clara Ann who married Henry Sterrey.

Robert Vernon Jones is also said to have been the village butcher at Bream. He was certainly the founder of the Vernon Lodge of the Royal Antediluvian Order of Buffaloes who met at the Cross Keys, Bream.

W E E Pritchard and Annie nee Jones went to live in Oxford Street, Lydney. Annie then ran a guest house on behalf of John Watts at Rosemont, Lydney High Street, now flattened for the glory that is Tesco's.

According to Kelly's Directory for 1879, Blistors was in the hands of one William James, mine agent. On 26 November 1900, there was a marriage at Bream of Samuel Robbins and Elizabeth Emma Hoare, both said - by the parish magazine - to have been of Blistors. A 1976 photo shows Blistors derelict.

I am indebted to Roger Dennis for most of this information. Searching "Blistors" on www.sungreen.co.uk reveals even more.
